DAD’S DAY 2017
The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what set our ancestors above the crowd.
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with [his son] Isaac and [his grandson] Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.
By faith Abraham, at the time of testing, offered Isaac back to God. Acting in faith, he was as ready to return the promised son, his only son, as he had been to receive him—and this after he had already been told, “Your descendants shall come from Isaac.” Abraham figured that if God wanted to, he could raise the dead. In a sense, that’s what happened when he received Isaac back, alive from off the altar. [Heb 11:1-2, 8-9, 12]
Sometime later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called.
“Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.”
“Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”
The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy & I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.” [Gen 22:1-5]
Every dad ought to know how GRATEFUL his kids are for these reasons:
- Working hard to provide for them is HONOURABLE!
- Making time for them is POWERFUL! [Eph 6:4, MSG]
Fathers…take your children by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master.
By Abraham’s example, every dad can have MOUNTAINTOP faith by:
- Making the CLIMB of TRUST. [Gen 22:3]
- Real Dads live REAL TRUST even when they cannot see it!
- Transferring real HOPE to his children no matter what. [Gen 22:5,8]
- What is in you as a MAN transfers through you as a DAD!
